Electronic insurance filings make it quick and easy for insurance companies to update their coverage records with state agencies. NIC Insurance Filings can also simplify a state agency's efforts to encourage insurance companies to stay up-to-date.

The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) has capitalized on its participation in NIC Insurance Filings as part of an effort to make sure insurance policy records are accurate.

The UTC has communicated with NIC Insurance Filings users to make sure that inactive policies are cancelled in a timely manner and encourage Form K, notice of cancellation, filings as needed. This outreach helps the agency keep track of commercial motor carriers' insurance status and reduces outstanding risk for the insurance companies.

Additionally, NIC Insurance Filings can also ensure that motor carriers have current proof-of-insurance on file consisting of Form E and Form H filings, which reduces the likelihood of permit cancellations and improves state regulatory accuracy.

"Our partnership with NIC Insurance Filings has helped us efficiently contact insurance companies that are harder to reach, and assists the insurance companies in submitting forms through a service they already use," said Suzanne Stillwell, Licensing Services Manager.

NIC Insurance Filings users can file updates electronically to the Washington UTC with three common commercial insurance forms:

  • Form E, Uniform Motor Carrier Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability Certificate of Insurance
  • Form H, Uniform Motor Carrier Cargo Certificate of Insurance
  • Form K, Uniform Notice of Cancellation of Motor Carrier Insurance Policies
