Pennsylvania PUC now receives 99% of Form E, H, and K filings online through NIC Insurance Filings

Electronic insurance filing keeps more motor carriers on the road

Published: March 30, 2022

The Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission (PUC) improved its efficiency throughout 2021 by increasing its online filing rate to 99% for commercial Form E, Form H, and Form K.

"In 2021, online filing of insurance forms moved beyond a common method to near universal usage for insurance companies working with the PUC," noted Tatjana Roth, Motor Carrier Compliance Supervisor for the PUC.

This success stemmed from the agency's partnership with NIC Insurance Filings. NIC's development team worked closely with the PUC to improve data quality through form customizations. NIC Insurance Filings prompts Pennsylvania insurance filers to enter the exact state-specific authority information required by the PUC. 76% of filings were accepted by the agency in 2021, preventing suspensions and keeping motor carriers on the roads.

NIC Insurance Filings also provided customer service to help companies file online to the PUC. The user support team provided account setup training and support to guide users through successful use of the system.

These efforts led insurance companies to file more than 8,500 forms through NIC Insurance Filings in 2021, an 18% increase from 2020 and a 40% increase from 2019.

"My staff has been glad to leave paper filings behind to quickly and easily communicate with insurance companies and keep motor carriers in compliance. We hope to make inroads with the last 1% in 2022," Roth added.
